Feb/10/08 - VSS Introduces New VS-Planet NEW YORK , NY, Feb 8, 2008: VS-Planet, an International on-line virtual community dedicated to helping its members master digital audio recording, is proud to announce a reorganization of their forum based website. Extending support beyond Roland VS-Studios, VS-Planet now renders dedicated forum support for the most popular Software Studios in today's marketplace:
ProTools
Sonar
Logic
Nuendo
Cubase
Reaper
Audition/CEP
"Although discontinued, the Roland VS product line is a vintage line and will be around for a long time," comments Paul Olito, VS-Planet's Director of Operations. "We're not demoting or abandoning VS products and will continue to support them , however, we must not forget that VS-Planet is first and foremos a music community whose members write, play, record, and produce music. As technology evolves and drives us to change the tools we use to record music, it's important for VS-Planet to evolve with the state-of-the-art platforms, and, although many Planeteers continue to use their VS machines as stand alone platforms, many are beginning to use them as control surfaces in combination with software studios, some VSers have migrated completely to to a new recording format, and others use software studios as mixing and/or mastering platforms."
"We have reorganized and created a venue where Planeteers no longer need to leave the confines of VS-Planet community to receive support, and share information about Pro-tools, Cubase, Sonar, Reaper, etc. With that said, we encourage and enthusiastically invite all Planeteers who have been absent for a while to hook up with VS-Planet again and experience our new format. If the immediate feedback from the community is any indication, it appears we've taken the right path."
The ProTools forum's moderater, Brad Lyons, is a long-term Planeteer and Sales Engineer at Sweetwater - a technical gun and human encyclopedia when it comes to providing technical audio information. Vince Gibbs, co-author of "Roland VS Recorder Power!" heads up the popular Reaper forum. Gibbs, also known as FunkyBeat on the Planet, is a highly respected community member and technical guru in his field.
"We are really excited about spinning off in a new direction. By discontinuing the VS line of recording products, Roland Corporation forced our hand to expand our horizons, but, we were prepared knowing the day would soon be coming. Now we have an opportunity to spread our wings and recruit additional artistic talent to an already talented musical community," "To our good fortune, the Planet's new structure embellishes and augments an already diversified and eclectic Independent music scene."
The "new" VS-Planet leverages a number of features from its predecessor, including web-based artist sites and a Live365 Pro Internet radio station. VS-Planet Radio (VSPR) streams at 128kbps and exclusively plays the Independent music of the VS-Planet community.
Chris (Hook) Skelnik, Director of Internet Operations adds, "Our mission is to Rock & Roll with the people we relate to best! It's about the music, community, helping each other get it done, and having fun doing it. With the recent development of mobile to mobile technologies - enabling VSPR to be listened to from virtually anywhere, including your car; the new structural changes; and a brand new BBS codebase that enhances the feature set and experience of the VS-Planet BBS, there has never been a better time to be a Planeteer or be a part of the VS-Planet community."
"V = Virtual S = Studio and that's the reason we can still call ourselves VS-Planet. All the new software digital workstations are "Virtual Studios" and our parent company VSS is an acronym for Virtual Studio Systems. So it all makes sense in a cosmic sort of way and feels like it was just meant to be," says Olito. "It's been a very smooth transition and we hope this brings some Planeteers who have gone off in different directions back into the fold."
