Having been away from music completely for 10 years, John Havlicek "got the itch" again in 2002 and started writing and recording at his home studio. Soon afterwards, his friend Pete Generous started doing drum tracks for him and not long after that, another good friend Carlos Gornic began doing the bass tracks.
Owing greatly to Pete and Carlos’ versatility, the styles they covered ranged from Texas Blues ("DC Drive" a salute to ZZ Top’s "LaGrange") to Latin Rock ("Bad Time") to "out there" ("Behind the 5 Ball" being a burner in 5/4). "Blue Collar" still manages to sound cohesive despite the range in styles covered. There’s even an acapella song "Living Well" to close out the album and the jazzy "Way Gone" was done as a tribute to the late, great Jimmy Smith at the last minute upon hearing of his passing
